Concours 2006

50 YEARS SINCE THE FOUNDING OF THE MG CAR CLUB OF S.A.

The entry fee is only $10 for the Concours and half price for subsequent entries, both inclusive of GST.  - Entry forms completed on the day.

SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION POSTER

We have not had a Concours for a few years now. The last one in 2003 was a huge success and I want to make this year’s event one to remember!

In order to celebrate the fact that 50 years has elapsed since the club was founded a special commemorative poster will be presented to all the participants who enter this auspicious days event.

While we are not in the Pebble Beach category I believe the South Australian event brings out some beautifully presented MG’s.

One only has to check the number of times SA members have brought back a variety of awards from interstate MG Natmeets to see that the standard of vehicles from S.A. is exceptionally high, a testament to the commitment by our local owners.

It is indeed amazing what MG’s are stored in the back of sheds all over the state!! Why not bring them along to celebrate in the 50 years celebration.

Come along on Sunday March 19, 2006 to Wigley Reserve down at the end of Anzac Highway and be a part of the day. You are all cordially invited to be part of this day, in fact any one who owns an MG can bring his or her MG along, they do not have to be members of the MG Car Club of SA, so if you know of other friends or relatives who own an MG invite them as well.

Peoples Choice Award

In order to involve everyone there is also a “Peoples Choice Award” which will be announced when the Trophy Awards are advised at about 3.00 pm. This award is one where every one who attends has an opportunity to vote for the MG they would love to see in their garage or carport. Many times the recipient of this award is not amongst the MG’s selected by the judges.

In order to have a level playing field it would be appreciated if all MG’s be road registered and driven to the event. i.e.: not brought on a trailer, with the exception of “Specials” and “Super Specials” MG’s- classes X, Y, & Z and ZZ Rolling Chassis.

The entry fee is only $10 for the Concours and half price for subsequent entries, both to be inclusive of GST.

The MG’s will be split into the same classes as are set out for an Australian National Meeting with a slight variation. Because we have a number of MG’s which have come in from America and subsequently converted to Right Hand Drive these loose heavily on originality if left in Classes J to Q therefore we intend having a specific class for these MG’s Class ZE.

The judging process.

To give members a better understanding about entering a Concours

The 6 best cars within each class will be picked out and judged by up to 3 judges for each section using the following criteria :-

a) Body & Exterior; paint, panel fit etc. 100 points
b) Interior; condition of carpets seat covering; All roadsters to have hoods erected (T types   to have side curtains in place. 100 points
c) Engine & Engine Bay; clean and absence of oil leaks. 100 points
d) Chassis and Running Gear; as above plus condition of wheels & Tyres. 90 points
e) Mechanical Condition; Check lights, all controls, suspension, horn and blinkers. 10 points
f) Originality; this section carries a total of 200 points on the basis that a brand new car straight off the show room floor would get 200 points, obviously most MG’s have a number of years of valuable service and the “newness” has been used over time thus points will be deducted due to this condition.

Total 600 points.

NB: All cars in classes X, Y & Z will Not have an Originality Section on their judging sheets. Total 500 points.

We will be requiring a number of helpers on the day so don’t be surprised if you get a phone call asking for your help, without everyone’s input the event cannot be a success.

It is intended that we will have a soft drinks van and a coffee van plus regalia will also be available for purchase. There is a deli over the road or one can go for a short walk to Jetty Road.

Further details will be available on the website or you can contact me direct, contact details are on the front of the magazine.

Thank you
