An MGB Story

Although not an active car club member I am still enthused by my MG..

As best as I can determine it is a 1968/69 model first delivered in Australia.  Has been "renovated" at some earlier stage however does appear to be fairly genuine.  I've owned it since 1999 being the 5th MG I've had since 1961.  The previous owner was Dave Potter of Dave Potter Motors ... Glenelg.

My first was a white MGA 1600 MkII bought new in February 1961 from  Grand Garage at 182 Anzac Highway, Glenelg for the sum of 1417 pounds.  ($2834 ...... I still have the original invoice and receipts)   Took delivery of the car on the 3rd of February 1961 and met my future wife on 10th of February 1961. (which is another story)   Regretfully had to part with it in 1966 when the first of the family came along.

The MG "bug" had not left us though so, as finances permitted, I bought a used dark blue MGB MkII in the early 70's from Dave Potter Motors as the "second car" and which I drove to work each day.  As the family grew we then discarded the conventional sedan for another MG .... an MGB GT which my wife then used to transport the kids around in.

There was another intermediate period during which we sold the GT and reverted to sedan cars for a while but in the end we succumbed and opted for another MGB GT .... this time with sun roof much to the kids' delight.

The last GT was sold during the early 90's leaving us MG free until 1999 when I was approaching retirement and decided that I had to have another MGB and which I still have and enjoy today ....... just takes a bit longer to get out of it these days though.

PS .... The number plate .... 1944 ..... is a Grand Prix plate and from a period during the 80's when I drove a Porsche 944 ..... unfortunately not my birth date as some have mistakenly guessed.
