SHOW & SHINE SPECTACULAR 2008.
HELD AT WIGLEY RESERVE GLENELG
SUNDAY APRIL 13 2008
Before the event we had a very nice BBQ at the Clubrooms, a small form of inducement to explain the set-up procedure. Here you can see the concentration as members worked it all out!
For a number of reasons the Show & Shine was not quite the success that it could have been.
Be that as it may for those who did attend it was a very enjoyable event, as can be seen from the following photo's provided by both Jim and Fay Underwood.
Once we had the basic set-up in place then it was a day for members and a huge number of interested ‘car supporters’ to remember.
Another positive which came out of the event was that we had a considerable number of members of the public who were very interested in becoming members of the MG Car Club of SA.
I would like to again thank all the helpers who made the whole day possible, without that help the event would not have been able to be carried out and the willingness with which that help was given was fabulous. I am not going to mention them all but from the initial draft flyer to pulling the last peg up at Wigley Reserve; to those who did help in all sorts of ways, no matter how small; can I say, personally, a big thank you!
The way all the cars were presented was such a high standard we may as well have gone to the next level and made it into a Concours! The way the Wigley Reserve was set up is identical! And we certainly had the member on hand to do the judging!
The two special displays (other than the MG’s in their classes which were the main display) were well received, certainly the Pre-War and Special Race MG’s was a huge drawcard.
The owners of the K3 & the R Type mentioned that the last time that these two cars were last next to each other was some 73 years before. So that in itself made the day to me.
In this display the car were positioned in the centre lane at 45 degrees to differentiate them; they were in order from the oldest to the youngest.
The “MG’s thru the ages” display was not as successful as the supporting poles kept being blown over by the sea breeze so people really did not fully see the significance of this display. Never mind we still have all the laminated pages and can mount this display in the future.
I wish to thank all the members who gave of their time to talk over the PA system about their interest in MG’s, their cars; and a variety of other interests. Some were willing others at first were hesitant but warmed to the task quickly.
A Show & Shine tends to be a less stressful event, a chance to talk to other members either known or new, but a very friendly event.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
By the time you read this we will be somewhere in Canada BC and probably freezing to death. This is just to thank Mike Greenwood and all helpers with the Show & Shine, a pity more members didn’t bother to bring their cars for display, we that attended had a good time and much more relaxing than a concourse, thanks also to Cherie and Colin for the lovely prizes which of course we were lucky enough to win, at least they can all be used instead of collecting dust. The public attendance was great to see and their interest was great too, asking lots of questions especially of those that had their bonnets up, this makes all that cleaning and polishing worth while. Hope to see you all in July at Ron and Laura Smiths.
Delores Smith
