Peter's
1949 TC
NO,
Peter didn't have a hernia when he saw the car, Peter already had the
hernia. In fact he was in hospital when he saw the add. Peter is an extremley
busy man - hence the hernia. Whilst Peter was laying in hospital with
plenty of time to spare, he picked up a car magazine and stumbled across
a very small add. Not being used to having time on his hands, he waited
for the nurses to disappear, promptly turned his mobile phone on and made
a few inquiries. Before he knew it, he'd purchased and paid for the car
over the phone. Soon afterwards he was discharged, with the pain forgotten
(well nearly), he went to view what he had just purchased - this delightful
car.
This
little treasure had been in a shed in the Eastern suburbs for many years.
It is believed it was serviced in 1958, 5 new tyres purchased and then
put back in the shed and never used again. It was found in 2001 and Peter
was quick to purchase it. The whole time the car remained registered,
but never used. When it arrived home, Peter did a few minor mechanical
repairs and started the engine - amazing after so long being idle.
Sure,
it needs some restoration work, but at only 21,000mls and in very original
condition, who cares what the paintwork looks like. Peter needs a hobby
and he views this little project as his semi-retirement project.
What
does his wife say, she just smiles and says: "why did we pay
all this money for a car only to have it delivered on a tow-truck"!!!
What
does Peter say about it? With a gleam in his eye and a huge grin on his
face that radiates enthusiasm to any loving MG owner: "it's great,
I love it and one day I will have it back in its original condition".
Good
luck on your restorations Peter.
