The TC was the first postwar MG, launched in 1945. It was quite similar to the pre-war TB, sharing the same engine with a slightly higher compression ratio of 7.4:1 giving 54.5 bhp (40.6 kW) at 5200 rpm but using more modern interior elements allowing a wider cockpit. It was exported to the United States, even though only ever built in right hand drive.

More Infomation

The export version had slightly smaller US specification sealed beam head lights and larger twin rear lights, as well as turn signals and chrome-plated front and rear bumpers. Over 10,000 were produced, a large number by MG standards. It cost £527 on the home market in 1947.

MG TC 1948, Engine No 5508, Chassis No 4826

MG TC, Chassis No 4826, was originally purchased from Motors Ltd by M Odges 1 Oct 1948, registration number SA 132 839.   The car was sold by Mr Whiting to Ian Hobbs in 1971 for $510.  Ian Hobbs is the current owner.

Roger Waters also owned this car in the 1950s and bought the car with the name ‘JODY’ written on the doors.  Jody was the previous owner’s girl friend.

Bill Schapel's Red MGTC Special

Since 1986 the car has competed in 93 competition events and has 30 outright or class wins, with 26 seconds and 17 third placings. The performance, while just below Bob's supercharged car, is quite startling for a normally aspirated 1366cc engine - due to the car's light weight and Bob's superb skills in engine and chassis preparation. In the past the circuits of Winton, Phillip Island and Adelaide International Raceway saw her in action. Mallala and Collingrove have been good to the little red car and continue to be her most common playgrounds, but in 2004 Sandown and Rob Roy were also visited to good effect. Has lapped Mallala in 1:27s and Collingrove in the 37s.
