Breakfast Run News
From Jeff Levett
Carisbrook Park - 27/6/10
Sunday dawned with minimal chance of rain, and fortunately that’s the way it stayed for us. The run took us up Montacute Road, down the Corkscrew and along Gorge Road. We then cut across to Kersbrook, turned left headed over the hill towards One Tree Hill, and then meandered into the top of Golden Grove, and then down the hill to Carisbrook Park.
The Adelaide Hills put on a delightful show of morning mists lying in between the hills, including the ground frost steaming as the sun started to warm it up. It was an invigorating but never the less a very pleasant morning breakfast run.
All up we had twenty-three members, and thirteen cars, including some new members attending their first run. Welcome to Danny & Cathy Ridge and to Ian and Anne Moulds who joined us in Kersbrook. Danny and Cathys freshly restored 1965 MGB looked brilliant and had only travelled 100miles since getting back on the road. The end of run reported that all is settling in well.
Next months run is to Garden Island, and perhaps opportunity to do some shopping at the Torrens Island Market after breakfast. The market is at the end of in Moorhouse Road which you will find just before our breakfast spot. The market is open every Sunday from 6am to 1pm and sells fruit and vegetables direct from farms and fish direct from fishing boats, so good for a look anyway.
Thanks to those that attended.

MAY BREAKFAST RUN TO ANGASTON
Here are some photos sent in by Gerry Rankine
Breakfast Run news – Angaston, 23 May 2010
Words by Peter Coulson,
A fine autumn morning, just right for a longish run to Angaston. Many thanks to those who regularly come along. This morning we had first timers Gerry & Susie Rankine in their B, Jeff & Barb Willmott also in a B, Trevor White in his B, and we had visitors Paul & Deb Ainsworth in an MGF.
Barry Burne spoke of the upcoming MGF/TF/Z/ZR/R Murray run, starting from the corner of Montacute and Stradbroke Rds., Newton at 9.00am for a 9.30 start on the 20th of June.
The route took us thru the scenic Torrens Valley and out thru Lyndoch, thru Bethany and onto Angaston. The destination at the Village Green off the Murray Street had a bit of protection from the cool breeze. At least the rain held off to arrive later in the day! The run was a bit longer than usual and gave some cars and drivers the opportunity to blow the cob webs out of carbys.
The Breakfast Run is looking for a new co-ordinator for 2011. If you are interested in planning out run routes and locations, please let me or the club committee know.
When attending a Breakfast Run, remember to sign-in as this event counts towards Club Member of the Year. Look forward to June 27, for the run to Salisbury with your route master – Jeff Levett.
The run will start from the usual place by the Uni footbridge on the north side of the River Torrens.
Thanks to those who attended.

Breakfast Run news – Hawthorndene, 25 April 2010
Words by Peter Coulson,
Morning of ANZAC Day greeted us with the chance of rain. The slight drizzle of rain did not deter the several who arrived for the run to Hawthorndene this morning. Even with the cars and people already parked around for the march did not stop us.
The route was one of the shortest for some time and took us around the city and up the road by Windy Point and onto Hawthorndene oval. The oval was bathed in early morning sunshine and the group soon setup for brekky. Reports that the coffee from Joan’s bakery was very good.
We had Ros & Alan Foweraker drop in for a chat as they saw the MG cars as they were driving past.
The Breakfast Run is looking for a new co-ordinator for next year. If you are interested in planning out run routes and locations, please let me or the club committee know.
When attending a Breakfast Run, remember to sign-in as this event counts towards Club Member of the Year. I am looking forward to seeing you all on May 23rd, for the longer run to Angaston. The run will start from the usual place by the Uni footbridge on the north side of the River Torrens.

Breakfast Run news – Thorndon Park, 28 March 2010
Words by Peter Coulson,
Short run – Peter Coulson,
Long run – Bruce McLean
Rain, rain go away! The threat of rain hung heavy in the air. However it did not stop the run going ahead. It was good to see 17 cars and drivers and passengers ready for the run.
Two routes were offered, that took the cars through Chain of Ponds and back to Thorndon Park, or for those looking to give the cars a bit of a run went out to Gumeracha and back to Thorndon Park.
Either way drivers had a good drive and it was interesting to wave to the other group as they went by.
The rotunda at Thorndon Park gave us shelter and protected us from the slight drizzle, even though Jeff and Bob had to cook their brekky out in the rain! (see pic)
We had first timers Jeff & Kerena Eckert in their MGB, hope you enjoyed the run, and look forward to you joining in on others.

Breakfast Run news – Bethany, 28 Feb 2010
Run and words by Peter Coulson.
A fine Sunday, but slightly chilly and windy morning greeted us for the run to Bethany. It was good to see 25 of the cars already had their tops down for the run.
The route took us through the scenic Torrens Valley out to Kersbrook and Williamstown onto Lyndoch and then to Bethany Reserve. Whilst the sun was shining and warmish during the drive, on arrival at the reserve the wind had picked up and did introduce a bit of a wind chill factor. However due to the resourcefulness of MG drivers, shelter was found and breakfast was setup and enjoyed.
We had 3 first timers with us on this run. Welcome to Greg Stanford & Karyn Twinning in their MGB, Trevor White also in a MGB, and to Michael Fielding in his MGF. Hope you enjoyed the run, and look forward to joining in on others.
When attending a Breakfast Run, remember to sign-in as this event counts towards Club Member of the Year. Breakfast Run news – Murray Bridge, 24 Jan 2010
Run and words by Peter Coulson.
A fine Sunday morning greeted us for the first breakfast run for 2010. Due to the Tour Down Under taking place in Adelaide and the stage 6 of the event being held around War Memorial Drive, today’s run started from the MG Club rooms in Chief St.
Many thanks to Secretary Arthur for getting up early and opening the club rooms for us to start the run. Hope you were able to get back into bed later to catch up on that missed sleep!
Marie Datson and family from Murray Bridge joined us for the run. Sorry you started at the Uni footbridge, but luckily found the cars going to MB and joined in. Also we had John & wife from Strathalbyn drop by as they heard the run was heading to Murray Bridge. John, hope you find the membership form and we’ll see you on later runs. We also had Rob Milesi a local MG club member from Murray Bridge drop by and see us at Diamond Park. Rob regaled with tales of the local AutoFest and invited members to his Hotel for coffees. (did anyone take him up on this?) Max Sierp and Berry Treffers went to look at the Murray Bridge AutoFest, but with a $30 entry fee and they decided not to bother!
For those of you who like numbers, last year we had a max of 40 cars on the Feb run to Strath, and a min of 10 cars for the May run to Wellington. According to my records the most cars we have had on a breakfast run over the last couple of years was 45 to the run at Uraidla in Dec 08. To all of you that haven’t been out for a brekky run for a while, see if you can join us some time and see if we can get more than 45 cars along some time this year.
When attending a Breakfast Run, remember to sign-in as this event counts towards Club Member of the Year. I am looking forward to seeing you all on February 28th, for the run to Bethany with your route master – Peter Coulson. The run will start from the usual place by the Uni footbridge on the north side of the River Torrens.

Breakfast Run news
Breakfast Run news - Uraidla, 27 Dec 2009
Run by Peter Coulson, words by Andrew Pointon.
Thirty seven cars with drivers and navigators congregated for the final breakfast run of the year.
Many complained of having eaten and drunk too much and most were glad that Christmas was over for another year. The early morning weather was cool with high cloud cover which was just perfect for a drive through the hills to Uraidla.
President Wayne addressed the gathering and thanked Peter and the Breakfast Coordinating team for their efforts during the year and encouraged them to continue this work throughout 2010. A wonderful cross section of vehicles for the MG marque from early TC & TD models through A’s, B’s & C’s right up to MGF’s and MGZT’s set off from War Memorial Drive.
Although the post Christmas sales had shoppers out and about early, the run around the city was slowed only the traffic lights. Once clear of the city a quick run up the freeway to Stirling blew away any lingering cobwebs. The run continued through Mylor and Hahndorf before heading along the Balhannah Road and onto the Bridgewater – Carey Gully Road.
Now despite the ever vigilant observations of my trusty navigator, we missed a turn and when in doubt followed the MG in front! We and several others found ourselves lost and at Bridgewater. Not to worry I had brought along the Sat Nav, which my navigator quickly programmed and we were on our way again.
Reaching our destination at Uraidla Park Reserve we found those who had followed the run instructions were already set up and cooking breakfast.
When attending a Breakfast Run, remember to sign-in as this event counts towards Club Member of the Year. I am looking forward to seeing you all on January 24, for the run to Murray Bridge with your route master – Peter Coulson. So hopefully after all the New Year’s festivities we will still have room for a traditional MG breakfast.
Please note the January 24, 2010 breakfast run to Murray Bridge starts at the MG CC SA club rooms, Chief St., Brompton. This is due to the Tour Down Under bike race closing War Memorial Drive off on the 24th of Jan 2010

Nuriootpa, 22 Nov 2009
Run by Jeff Levett (& some back roads by Leon Rosenzweig), words by Jeff Levett & Peter Coulson, photos from Peter Coulson.
The day started with the top down (as it should be) as I backed the beast out, but after much hesitation and reluctance up it went. Just as well as it was a wet run into town for the start of today’s run. By the time we arrived at the footbridge the sun was shining through to welcome the morning’s breakfast runners.
We had a good turn out for today’s run which saw our cavalcade head out of town along Lower NE road, through Paracombe, Chain of Ponds, Kersbrook and onto Williamstown. Some top gear running through to Springton and around and down into the Barossa and Nuriootpa via Menglers Hill. Today was around 107Kms, but at a nice run reasonable pace through pleasant country and best of all not much traffic about to worry us. Always a nice view as you head down Menglers Hill into the wine region, and John Heneker in his MG TF greeted at the bottom and then joined us to the linear park.
Linear park saw the traditional breakfasts underway and welcome to our first time runner, Karen Iilett, hope you enjoyed the morning. I did hear that some one was making heart shaped fried eggs, but couldn’t get a picture of them! Thanks to all that attended to make it another successful run.

Breakfast Run news
Goolwa Airstrip, 25 Oct 2009
Run by Gary Davies, words by Peter Coulson, photos from Peter Coulson.
The weather was supposed to be fine, but it was a bit chilly and many MG tops were soon put back up. However there was a good turn up of 30 cars, and many were keen to see the replica spitfire at the Goolwa airstrip. Some were already on their way to Goolwa and we met with them down there.
Many thanks to Gary Davies for arranging the breakfast run to Goolwa airstrip, and arranging for the replica Spitfire to be on show. There were a couple of Chinese airplanes there as well and I hear that joy flights were available. Pity that the very windy conditions prevented a few people going up!
How many MG people can fit into a shed?? Plenty if the weather is cold and windy (see pic)
Gary had also talked to Michael Finnis and Michael had opened his car museum at Goolwa just for the MG club to view. I hope that those who did visit the museum enjoyed it, and passed on our thanks to Michael.
The breakfast run committee has compiled the venues and destinations for next year. If you are interested in doing a breakfast run route, please let me know.
A vale to a recently past Breakfast Run regular – Malcolm Datson, who passed away recently. Our very best to Marie and family and Malcolm will b fondly remembered.
