Breakfast Run to St.Kilda
22 May 2011

This turned out to be a run for the MGB’ists, the forecast was for a wet and windy day so numbers were down, however a hardy handful of MGBs plus a couple of European interlopers turned up at the Adelaide footbridge on a bright and clear  Adelaide spring morning to start the short run out to St. Kilda.

Being a small group we basically managed to keep in convoy all arriving at the same time to a cloudy and windy beach side reserve. But spirits were high and breakfast was had amongst some convivial chatter.

However with rain looming there was not the desire to risk the mangrove board walk or visit the tram museum so we gradually all drifted back home.

Those who took in the St. Kilda sights were:

Wanda & Tony Freckelton              MGB GT

Deb & Andrew Pointon              MGB

Chris & Jeff Armitage                MGB

Berry Treffers                            MGB

Ray Hill                                     MGB

APRIL 2011 BREAKFAST RUN TO NURIOOTPA- HELD 1 MAY 2011.

So it was a little bit wet! Our MGs don’t rust that easily after a few kilometres do they?
Driving a variety of different MGs and other models some 38 members and friends met at the University footbridge at the appointed time of 08.15 for the 08.30 start.
We did not need an umbrella at all and a number of the intrepid group came with the hoods stowed.
We did have a first timer along which was great; Jenny Filsell in her MGB with her friend Pamela Farrant, and Jenny was welcomed although a little daunted.
However most needed to stop when going through North Adelaide when the heavens did open to keep everyone happy.
This particular Breakfast run was to head to Nuriootpa so quite a distance, 46.6 miles along Main North Road through Gawler and then let the MG go a bit faster along the Barossa Valley Highway until Tanunda and then look for the big train sitting in the Park opposite the turn-off to Angaston on entering Nuriootpa.
There was some shelter available but there was no rain to speak of at all while we all had our selected B’fast/ Lunch. Also we were able to walk across the road to the BP Service Station and get a pretty good Flat White.

So thanks to Steve Spong for doing all the work and letting me get all the glory!

27 February 2011 - BREAKFAST RUN TO MOUNT BARKER

They had forecast low 30’s and high cloud so it looked like being a great day for a run into the hills. 21 cars full of keen MGer’s turned up at War Memorial Drive, including 3 honorary MG’s for the day. Rex and Lynette Adams were welcomed for their first Breakfast Run.

Indeed it was a perfect sunny and wind free morning as we set out up Magill Road towards Norton Summit. The temperature then started to drop and half way up the hill we hit low cloud that was not to shift for the rest of the morning.

Whilst this meant some very atmospheric driving through the lovely country side, it did mean a chilly ride for those who failed to wear anything more than a tee shirt.

We headed out through the much publicised town of Inverbrackie and then towards Mount Barker where some chose the shortened route of about 35 miles to the rendezvous, whilst others opted for the longer one of about 47 miles via Hahndorf and Echunga.

But we all managed to meet up for breakfast still under the slowly lifting cloud. So all in all it was a most enjoyable outing and thanks to all those who came.

BREAKFAST RUN TO
SEMAPHORE,
30TH JANUARY 2011

Was there anyone more surprised than me, when, on a day forecast to have a top temperature of 42C, or thereabouts, 15 MG’s and 3 moderns arrived at the University Footbridge for a Breakfast Run to Semaphore.  I secretly thought that by 8.30 nobody would have arrived and I could hotfoot it back to the airconditioning at home – ha – that’s what thought does.

We set off for Semaphore by a fairly direct route, through Wellington Square, North Adelaide and onto Torrens Rd, right at Cheltenham Racecourse to Grand Junction Rd and then basically west to Semaphore Beach. There was some shade available and most of us took advantage of it, but hardy souls like the Buckby’s enjoyed the sunshine.  I must be some kind of a wimp; Alan can perhaps answer that best.

However, the beach was just the answer on such a warm day, and we enjoyed our breakfast (lots of fresh fruit) and the view over the water set the scene for a very relaxed morning.

Breakfast Run news – Taperoo, 26 Dec. 2010
Words & pics by Peter Coulson.

Yes it is the day after Christmas.  How many would turn up? 17 cars, drivers and passengers arrived and off we went. The weather was bright and many of the tops were down.

This morning we had first timer, Roger Ford, in his MGB. Also we had a visitor, Alwyn Evans, who had just recently arrived from Wales. Though we thought it may be a bit cool, Alwyn advised us that it was -20 at home in Wales!!! Other visitors were Alice and Ken Helson, who I hear are part of the New Zealand, Ruediger family tree.

The run took us through the north east suburbs, through Outer Harbor and onto the playground area at Taperoo. Even though Alwyn was in the navigator’s seat for Graham Hamilton, they did find their way to the venue! As the photos show the overcast skies and cool breeze did not hamper our get together.

The Breakfast Run is looking for a new co-ordinator for 2011. If you are interested in planning out run routes and locations, please let me or the club committee know. Breakfast runs are typically 1 hour long and approx 50-60k’s. When a venue is selected we look out for toilet facilities, shelter in case of wet and/or hot weather. There needs to be good parking areas for up to 25-30 cars. The routes to the venues need to be on sealed roads and not necessarily along the main roads or highways.

When attending a Breakfast Run, remember to sign-in as this event counts towards Club Member of the Year.

Thanks to those who attended.

Breakfast Run news – Mt Torrens, 28 Nov 2010
Words & pics by Peter Coulson.

Who said it was the end of spring and summer starting next week? What happended to the warm weather? However the 26 cars, drivers and passengers did not let the cool weather bother them. Off to Mt Torrens we went. The route took us thru Ashton, Lobethal and onto Mt Torrens oval, home of the mighty Torrens Valley football team.

This morning we had first timers, Bill & Terri Rodriguez , in their blue MGB. Also I found out that Maurie Evans was a first timer in his MGB. Welcome along!! Paul & Debbie Ainsworth brought along the Christmas spirit with what could be described and a singing and dancing Father Xmas (see pic).

The run will start from the usual place by the Uni of Adelaide footbridge on War Memorial Drive, the northern side of the River Torrens.
