MSCA SUPER SPRINT ROUND 2 HELD ON 4TH JULY 2010

The morning temp. started at 3 degrees, with clear sky’s, and a dry but very cold track. 97 competitors entered for what looked like a perfect day, for Mallala that is.

The trouble with a very cold track & ambient air temp. is that the tyres take a long time to heat up, and the first demonstration of this was a Porsche GT3 on cold tyres, which entered the track from the pits on his first practice lap, gave it a boot full, came to the first turn, and went straight on into the tyre wall. Damage estimate $100k.!

We had 12 MG Club members entered on the day, which is fantastic. Cars ranged from B’s to F’s to plastics & a clubman. As usual Bev had organised the hire of garage, no. 47, and tea/coffee & biscuits were available to warm everyone up.

I’d like to say practice went smoothly, well it did, except for me. A week before I bought a clubman, and was jointly entered today with my son James. On the second practice lap, coming into the corner before the esses & the main straight, I locked all wheels and went sight seeing. Luckily the back wheels didn’t go into the sand trap & I was able to back out and continue on. Bugger me, next lap, I did it again, just about following my original tyre tracks! I’d like to blame the tyres, the weather, the track, my mother but unfortunately James went round without any issues, beating me by 8 seconds. Others suggested maybe it was the extra weight the brakes had to pull up!

James & Fred Neild - Their New Machine

Unfortunately the MSCA printer packed up after printing the practice times, and there was only one copy, held by Barry in the formup area, which caused initial confusion.
As the day progressed no times were published, so formup continued based on practice times. Fortunately for our group, Eric Gray had turned up, and started recording lap times by his stop watch, which at least gave us some indication of lap times. Thanks Eric.

Geraldine & Wayne Hough with their New MGF Racecar

The cold track continued to send cars off and delays were experienced resulting in only 3 rounds being held.  The Sprint was called off at 3.30pm.

Laurie Houghton after 3 rounds only improved his practice time by .0055 of a second, which shows how consistant a driver Laurie is, and also achieved the Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) for an MG at 1.251950.  Laurie was 27th outright fastest against some very serious machinery, the next fastest MG was 56th.

Everyone had a safe day, with the biggest MG improver on the day being Arthur Ruediger, with 4 seconds quicker than practice; fastest lap 1.364494. Since recently starting Sprinting, Arthur has improved over 10 seconds per lap, and he’s getting better every meeting.  Watch out Laurie!

Eric and his car held together, having brake hose problems last meeting, and improved by 1 second. I had the pleasure of Eric tearing past me then coming across for that corner I mentioned earlier. A brave move as I felt the wheels start to lock up again. Thank goodness I remembered Candice braking.

James muscled Bob off the track in turn 2, then went off himself in turn 3!  Wiser heads prevailed. Otherwise he had a fun day, first time out at a Super Sprint.  And he was 5 seconds faster than the old man!

Hugh Webber came out in his F and aquitted himself well. I followed Hugh for 3 laps, and he’s a very smooth driver. With more track time I can see his times improving.

Bob King likes nothing more than pushing his RV8 around the track and he had the 6th fastest time of our group.

John Davis in his MX6 MPS is the dark horse of the group. This is a stock standard daily work car on street tyres, but has 4 wheel steer, ABS, & stability control, which allows him to circulate in the dry & wet without any dramas. Times were impressive at 1.31.

Murray Stephenson in his “not very standard” Honda Civic was circulating in the 1.29 second mark, whilst son Scott in a “very standard” Mitsubishi Mirage kept out of trouble and improved his times by 10 seconds, to 1.51.  (Scott is not old enough for a road licence yet)

The Hough’s, Wayne & Geraldine, are enjoying the family rivalry, but I think Wayne is now zeroing in on his mate Arthur, and would love to beat his time.

Fred Neild between Richard Davies&Andrew Murray

The MG Car Club had to provide two flag marshalls this round, and I would like to thank Andrew Murray & Richard Davies who came from 8.15 am until 3.30pm, flagging on pit wall. Without their willingness to give up their time we could not run motorsport.

VIC RACERS COMING TO
 MALLALA

21 & 22 July 2010

The Victorian MGCC Racing Register will be fielding a grid of MGs at Round 3 of the SA Circuit Racing Championship on Saturday/Sunday 21/22 August at Mallala, run by the Sporting Car Club SA.

It is expected that at least 20 cars will make the trip from Melbourne for the event, those that come will pick up a 20% bonus to their championship points score.

Friday the 20th is a practice day at Mallala and some of the entrants will probably come over a day earlier to familiarise themselves with the circuit.

At the time of writing this, our club could be entertaining these visitors at the clubrooms on the Friday night .

If you wan’t to see the best MG racing make sure you make the time to visit Mallala over the weekend.

MSCA 6 HOUR REGULARITY RELAY 23RD MAY 2010

First I should explain what this event entails, so everyone can read this & understand what we were trying to achieve on the day.
Each team, comprising from 4 to 6 drivers, has to nominate individual driver lap times, which each driver has to achieve for every lap. (The regularity bit.) From the nominated times the MSCA timekeepers calculate how many laps a team should achieve in the nominated 6 hours plus bonus laps if we completed every lap on time.
If a driver goes faster than the nominated time (breaking out) the lap  does not count. If they go round within the nominated time or 1 second slower they receive a bonus lap.  The team with the most laps covered in the 6 hours wins.  Prize money for first place is $1,000- so the teams take this event seriously.

Arriving at Mallala Motorpark gates at 7.30am  competitors were queuing on the road keen to start.  My MG team (I was Team Manager)  drivers were Laurie Houghton, Eric Erickson, Bob King, Arthur Ruediger, Chris Hunt, & John Davies, and in the dry but windy conditions all set times close to those provisionally nominated.

However when the event started at 11.00am Chris in his newly acquired MGB V8 (ex. Brian Hills/Neil Williams) drove like a man possessed and blew his practice times out of the water.  Then Arthur, who has found a new lease of life with his MGB GT V8 and racing tyres, was also breaking out on his laps.  Next out was Laurie, who is a past master at this event, and he steadied the ship putting in consistent laps, followed by Eric, John, & Bob.

Did I mention the dust storm that came in about 12 noon followed by freezing winds and rain from 1.00pm?  The team time keepers in the media centre were relishing the comfort of heating, food, & coffee on tap, but those on the wall were exposed to the elements and needed a medal for staying out there.

When the rain came no one was going to achieve their nominated times, so everyone just went out & drove as fast as they could in the conditions. Luckily there were only minor mishaps on the track with no damage to the cars. Eric’s front brake hose collapsed which put him out after his first run, but he was occupied taking photos and helping out with timing in the media centre.

At 5.00pm the event conclude, and without exception all drivers would have kept on driving if they could.

The MG team came 7th out of 17 teams running on the day which was a fantastic result.

I would especially like to thank the volunteers who made this event possible for the drivers.  Bev Waters, Eric Gray, and Lanie (Bob King’s partner) who looked after timing, and Andrew Murray, Rob Hall, Peter Coulson & Wayne Hough who manned the pit wall keeping the drivers informed of their lap times for the 6 hours.  Andrew even brought a spare set of racing wheels/tyres along in case our drivers struck trouble.

Should we enter next year? Without question.  Hopefully we can enter 3 teams next year!!

PS: The racing MGF’s entered a team, comprising of Rod O’Malley, Neil Williams, Tyson Jeanes, & Tim Edmonds.  They came 6th overall.

SCC Winter Cup 1 Hillclimb
16 May. Collingrove
From...Laurie Houghton

Winter ? Cup, well you could not have got a better day at Collingrove, sun shining all day, not much wind, just glorious weather.
There were 69 entrants listed on the run sheet 8 of which were MGCC members, the SCC were still calling for entrants after the official closing date so I don’t know what kept people away, there were a couple of our members missing, notably John Kemp, John Tamke and myself although I attended as a spectator and spent some time checking out the new Tag Heuer timing system now installed.

As with any new systems there were some hiccups during the day but I’m sure that as they get some suitably trained volunteers all will sort it’s self out. ( More on this later )

Chris Hunt has recently purchased Brian Hills MGBV8 roadster and couldn’t wait to get it onto the hill, first time in the new car and under 40 secChannel 7 was present doing a feature on Ian Brock, Sporting Car Club legend competing in his well known Elfin Streamliner at age 86, Ian changes the car number every year to match his age.

New member David Maskell attended and it was great to see a number of the Weekender people arrive to have a look at our members competing, Mike Greenwood & Jan Dinan, Sandra and Alan Cardnell, Trevor & Sandy Dicker, Alvin & Kath Whittle, Dennise & Nick Micklem and Sue & Stephen Holmes.

MONARTO MOTORKHANA

Sunday April 26, 2010

Brief Report from Wes Bray

Just a brief note to let you know that the club was represented at the Motorkhana at Monarto on Anzac Day.  I raced the trusty 1100, David Beames was in his special and the Stephensons were there in 2 cars.  Curley helped with the timing and Chris Bray and Peter Coulson were seen in the spectator gallery.

There was the danger of rain all day but apart from practice none appeared.  Only 4 cars in class B this time, not the 28 entries of last motorkhana.  Atom was one of the courses and I did it 3 seconds faster than at the Nat Meet.  Dave Sacco was able to produce results during the day using his system.

MGCC MOTORSPORT REPORT

SCCSA MULTI CLUB HILLCLIMB NO. 2
COLLINGROVE HILLCLIMB
SATURDAY 24TH APRIL 2010

Entries were down to 54 for this hill climb, against the usual 100 entries, mainly due to it being held on a long weekend, and possibly because it was on a Saturday. Low numbers meant short delays in having a run, with 6 runs completed by 3.30pm.
The MG Car Club had 12 members running on the day; 22% of the field!

The weather varied from dry to showers, warm sunshine to overcast windy & cold, so the run times varied as much as the weather.
The Drivers:
Warren Litchfield in his MGB had a good day bringing his times down from 40.44sec to 37.11sec, after playing with tyre pressures and perfecting his start.
President Wayne Hough in his MGF, new to Collingrove with this car, improved his times on every run.  Wife Geraldine, driving the same car, also improved and was keen to match Wayne’s times.  Nothing like family rivalry.
Arthur Ruediger in his MGB GT V8 has been bitten by the speed bug, and was keen to break in his new Yokohama Advan’s , purchased after his spectacular double spin at the last Super Sprint. His times were consistently within half a second for the 6 runs.
Laurie Houghton, the old fox of the hill climb, in his beautiful sounding MGB V8 (helps when you remove the rear muffler) had a trouble free day and improved his times. It’s great to see Laurie get through the day with no drama’s, unlike his 4 cylinder days.
Another new member enjoying motor sport, Chris Hunt, had a mixed day. His MGB GT developed a fuel starvation problem which affected his acceleration up the hill and after trying various ways to fix the problem, forgot to tighten a spark plug and completed the last run spluttering up the hill. Next appointment: the dyno.
Bob Schapel brought out his supercharged TC Special and whilst his times were all over the place, managed to put in a good run, and achieve fastest time for an MG, 36.75sec.
He went “gardening” on one run, only the second “off” in his extensive hill climbing career, at the top in the esses, which was due to cold tyres on the front refusing to turn in.

Members with various non MG cars were the Stephenson family; Murray in his Honda Civic, & wife Karen, & son Scott, (who isn’t old enough to drive on the roads), in a Mitsubishi Mirage. Murray had a 96 second run, but we think he made a pit stop at the top; otherwise they all improved during the day.
Stan Ward in his stunning Elfin Clubman had his track “fix” and put in 4 climbs before going away for the long weekend up the river. He achieved his sub 40 sec. on the last climb.
Vic Moore in a Porsche Carrera also put in 4 runs and achieved a sub 40sec. before leaving.
The cool track temperature and intermittent rain did not allow for optimum times, but everyone appeared pleased that they had bettered their times during the day, and there were no mishaps to the cars.

The MGCC conducted the first Motorkhana round for 2010 at Monarto on
Sunday 7th March. This motorkhana included the tests to be run at the National meeting, consequently 17 members attended, quite a number of who had never competed in a motorkhana, because of the Nat Meet work load Tim
Edmonds has postponed the full report/results until the next issue.

MSCA SUPERSPRINT 28TH MARCH 2010

The first Supersprint of the year was wet, wet, wet.  We had sunny days leading upto the Sunday, and sunny days since, but on that Sunday from the first practice run, steady light rain started to fall, with heavier falls during the day.  The track became waterlogged in various spots, resulting in very slow times on the day.  Turn 1 & 2, which are usually gung ho corners, finished up looking like a parade lap, with many competitors driving very cautiously.  Those that tried a little bit harder finished up in the infield.

Fourteen members entered on the day, but only 11 managed to run in the rain.
Andrew Beattie & his son Mark had double entered but failed scrutineering with no brake lights, due to a faulty brake switch.

Luckily the Club had hired a garage, which provided shelter, and was a focal point for all the competitors and their partners.

Bazz & Eric were dicing all day, with each successfully making the other make mistakes in the effort to stay in front. Not that Bazz would admit making a mistake, he “just felt sorry for Eric and let him pass”.

Most spectacular loose of the day must go to Arthur Ruediger in his MGB GT V8 who was leading his group, when the red mist came down. He was on the back straight and “motoring”  when he aquaplaned, performed a perfect 180 degree spin, with the car going down the track backwards, then hitting the outfield, spinning again, this time facing forward and running parallel to the wall, before sliding back on the track, and continuing on.  Jim Richards could not have done it better.

First timers John Davies in a Mazda 6 MPS, Hugh Webber and President Wayne Hough
in MGF’s all had a safe day, with John in his Mazda, with traction control, achieving a top 30 time, only 9 seconds off the fastest time on the day.

                MG MOTORSPORT SEASON FOR 2010

For the regular and not so regular MotorSport participants, now is the time to check the car out ready for a big season, with events from early February to the last Super Sprint in late October. In total we have 28 events on the MotorSport calendar.

We have the added bonus this year of our Club hosting the MG National Meeting at Easter, which means we have the opportunity to join in with other MG owners from  Australia wide, and have fun at the Motorkhana and a sprint at Mallala.

For those new to the sport or those considering joining in, not sure what you have to do to prepare your car or what does it cost? Give me a call on 8338 7542. It’s not as expensive as you may think.

The car must be road worthy, no obvious oil leaks, good road tyres, have a lap/sash seatbelt fitted, and have a secondary bonnet catch fitted. This only needs to be a length of cord with a toggle catch, and does not require drilling of any holes on your car.
A CAMS approved fire extinguisher (approx $30) - fitted to the car, within reach of the driver. Usual place is on the floor in front of the passenger seat.
CAM’s Licence: Issued on the day for $45- which can be offset against a full licence of $95- for a year . In most cases a medical is not required.
Entry fees:
Motorkhana: $25-  Note: No racing helmet required.
*Sprints: $75-
*Hillclimb Collingrove: $95-

* The Club has 2 helmets for loan on the day for first comers.

MGCC ECONOMY RUN
AND HOW TO GET 131 MPG

On a nice a Sunday morning 8 MGs and 1 other left for a quiet drive to Morphett Vale via some nice twisty roads to see who could use the least amount of fuel, there were a few simple questions along the way. The winner Graham Loader found that MGZRs can run on the smell of an oily rag as he achieved the amassing figure of 131.94 MPG, lots of luck to anyone to better.

The competition year has now finished and planning for next year is moving forward. The big thing for next year is the National Meeting at Easter with a Concourse, Super Sprint and Motorkhana with all the details on the Nat meet web page

natmeet2010.mgccsa.org.au

there will be practice for these events early in the New Year, all dates will be in the next magazine.

Championships
Collingrove 17-18 October

For the first time in many months the Barossa Valley was bathed in sunshine and not raining for the premier hillclimb event on the calendar, albeit the trailer park was a bit of a quagmire but the pit area was ok and the track was good, volunteers had been hard at work cutting some of the long grasses surrounding the track so the site looked a picture.

There were in excess of 90 entries which included 10 MGCC members, there were a number of interstate entries including the National Hillclimb Champion, Peter Gumley from NSW and Kevin Mackrell from Victoria driving his awesome 4WD 6.5 litre V8 powered Datsun 260Z

The field got through 4 runs on Saturday and while a further 4 runs were expected for Sunday only 3 were run after someone took out the timing strip at the finish line, causing about an hours delay.
Four members, Warren Litchfield Sue Day, John Tamke and Andrew Beattie contested the Open Sports Car class, Warren was initially awarded first place in error as the last round was  not factored in the final results,  John Tamke took out the class win with a PBT of 37.09.

Marque Sports 3001—6000 was won by John Kemp I being the only other competitor, what ever happened to all the Porsches???

John Payne and Stan Ward won their respective classes.

John Muldoon made a welcome return to the hill after a season or so in his Bowen P6 open wheeler.

The highlight of the weekend was watching Peter Gumley in his supercharged Volkswagen powered purpose built Wortmeyer hillclimb special set a new track record of 28.95 seconds. (Times will be in Nov issue)

Note:  Winter Cup 3 Re-Run

Now on 15 November, your existing entry is valid

MARCUS CHAMBERS

Marcus Chambers, has recently passed away just short of his 99th birthday.

Marcus was the first BMC Competitions Manager based in Abingdon, working with John Thornley and he held that post with conspicuous success for some seven years.

Here is a link to the UK MGCC site giving a brief obituary of Marcus. http://www.mgcars.org.uk/midgetspriteclub/MascNew/ClubNews/2009/08/marcus-chambers-1910-2009.html

As a young man growing up in England in the 50's I do recall the name well and was very much in favour of his and his team's efforts as they sent a succession of BMC products, including MGs, to take Johnny Foreign! This, of course, culminated in outright victory in the Liege- Rome-Liege and Alpine rallies, albeit in our 'rival, an Austin-Healey.

August 29th & 30th
Winton Raceway Victoria

The MG Car Club of Victoria Racing Register were once again racing at Winton .

In the past few years Adrian Ackhurst and Rodney Gibb have competed in a number of races in Victoria at a number of tracks including Phillip Island , Sandown .

This time with the event being held at Winton a few others racing MGF`s decided to join them and have some fun on another track other than Malalla. So it was the Croweaters challenging the Vics on their home turf .

Our cars were transported by Rodney Gibb in the “AAA” racing  transporter and delivered to the track ready to go racing .Entries from S.A were Rodney Gibb MGF Cup car , Adrian Ackhurst MGF cup car , Rod O’Malley MGF, Neil Williams MGF and Troy Dontas MGF .

The real surprise for the weekend was a field of some 38 entries in our race , mainly MG`s but we also had two triumphs racing as well .Saturday consisted of practice 15 minutes , qualifying 15 minutes and then a 6 lap race .Sunday three races one at 10 laps and then two at 6 laps so a very busy weekend in fact our group being the biggest entry list had more races that any of the other categories .

The weather was a real concern especially being at Winton which at this time of year is either cold or wet but we were very fortunate cloudy and cool on the Saturday some light showers and then Sunday sunny with a few light showers .So great for racing on a dry track .

The race was held on the long track what an experience , times for the MGF`s were about 20 seconds longer than Malalla so when we did the 10 lapper I am sure most were  looking for the chequered flag .

The amazing thing as I mentioned earlier was the 38 entries what a wonderful promotion of the Marque, the form up area only takes 24 so we had 12 cars lined up in the pit area as well an amazing site .

The Field consisted of MG`s mainly MGB`s but also a number of Midgets , In Victoria although they are in the same race there are a few categories ,such as open class, fast road and Historic .So we have MGBGT with V8`s , roadsters with V8`s , MGB`s with 4 cylinders, MG Midgets , MGF Cup cars and then MGF`s so quite a mixture .

We must thank the Victorian Racing Register for the very warm welcome they gave us .On the Saturday a free  BBQ lunch was organised by the  wives and partners for all entries in the MG race  what a wonderful gesture .

A number of discussions took place about the Vics coming to race at Malalla in the future , so if they do it would make a great display of the Marque. Thanks to all concerned for a wonderful weekend .

Results for all of us were quite good as well having some 38 entries , Rodney Gibb in 14th place , Adrian Ackhurst in 15th , Rod O`Malley in 20th , Neil Williams in 21st and Troy Dontas in 32nd , a few mechanical issues but nothing major .

Joyce Williams was operating a Video camera with some great footage , perhaps we can show it at the club one night .

Looking forward to a repeat in the future .

Neil

Multi-Club Hillclimb
Sunday 23 August
Collingrove

As a non Club Championship round MGCC members were thin on the ground, with only 5 competing.
John Kemp. Margaret Lynch, Sue Day, Andrew Beattie, Chris Hunt.
John tells me he did a 34.47 run almost beating his PB on 2 year old tyres and had a big spin past the timing tower on his last run trying to improve.
Stan Ward was a visitor in his Elfin Clubman.

Multi-Club Motorkhana
Sunday 30 August
Big W Monarto

This was a Club Championship round and regrettably the only MGCC entries were Dave Beames with his M/K Special and myself in my MGBV8.
This round was run by the SDCC who were trialing their new Tag Heuer timing systems for the first time at a Motorkhana.
The event also included a Come & Try component and the turnout was excellent, I think 52 entries overall so there is a good chance some of the people who came and tried will return in due course as full competitors.
As the only MG I gained FTD and first in class, when you don’t have any competition that’s easy, still I had a lot of fun and will have even more when I get a hydraulic handbrake working

MSCA Family Fun Day
Sunday 6 September

As the name implies this was a fun day with come & try, novice sprint training, “media rides” parade laps and untimed sprinting.
A total of 92 people entered
Wayne Hough has made mention of his and Geraldenes experience in his Presidents report on page 6.
This was an excellent event and the MSCA have scheduled another one for early in 2010.
Present was Chris Bucknel driving his R Type MG, Chris is in the process of obtaining his full competition licence.
Wayne & Geraldene Hough, MGA and Barina, Hugh and Michael Weber MGF, Audris Smits MGB, Neil and Rick Williams MGF, Chris Hunt MGBGT and myself MGBV8.
Visitors included, Steve Bowra, Maris & Marcie Valodze, Sue & Bill Gilson, Harry Dickson, Rod Hall, Mailiny Hunt, Lindsay &  …………

SA Motorkhana Championships
and Teams event
Sunday 13 September
Big W Monarto

A much smaller field than the multi-club 2 weeks earlier however as it was the Championship event mainly the regulars attended, once again only Dave Beames and myself were the only MGCC members.
11 tests were run on 2 lanes with only one run at each so all the hotshots were right up there at the front.
Dave Sakko ran his new timing system on one lane and if time had been on our side he could have had results at the end of the day.
ICWs traditional system was operated on the other lane with times manually loaded into Daves computer, results were emailed to everyone on the next day.

6th, 7th & 8th November 2009

Up to 35 V8 Mustangs, Falcons, Holdens and Camaros and a pack of rapid Porsches and Toranas will compete in the seventh and final round of the 2009 Biante Touring Car Masters series, which like Historic Sandown, is sponsored by Shannons Insurance
At Sandown the Biante cars will join bumper fields of Group N Historic touring cars from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, plus events for Group C and Group A touring cars from the 1970s and 1980s on the most exciting touring car programme ever presented at the annual Historic meeting.

Quite a number of our members are attending this event either as spectators or competitors and as one of the latter it is well worth the trip, everyone has free entry to the pits and you get to see the best of Historic  Racing in Australia.

If you can make it to Melbourne for this weekend you won’t regret it.

Winter Cup 2 Hillclimb
Sunday 9 August
Collingrove

Winter Cup, the name says it all, once again a miserable start to the day, cloudy, and overcast but at least it wasn;’t raining. The Winter Cup events gives entry preference to SCCSA members so if you are only an MGCC member you have to get in early or miss out as one of our regular hillclimbers did, they cut the entries at 100 so I believe.

This was a two star Club Championship event with eleven MGCC members entered, 9 MGs competing for points, and 2 non marque, there were some delays early with timing problems but once sorted things moved along ok,  there is not much to comment on with hillclimbing, it’s all over in 40 seconds ( on average ) and then a lot of waiting about, but as I’ve said on numerous occasions before once you are on the start line its all concentration, quite a buzz, ask Andrew Beattie, his MGF is flying.

Bob Schapel posted the fastest MG time in the supercharged MGTC, everyone got 4 runs and in most cases the last run was their best, with the exception of Bev Waters who got a sudden late invitation to a dinner in Adelaide with Joyce Williams followed by the Queen concert, who would want to hang around when this was on offer ?

A number of us retired to Stan and Jan Wards for drinks and Pizza, our thanks to our hosts.

SCA Super Sprint Rnd 3
Sunday 16 August Mallala
Pt 1 From Laurie Houghton

Our club was rostered to provide flagging officials for the day so thanks to all those who turned out to assist, but wouldn’t you know, the other clubs who were also rostered ( no one club is asked to provide all officials ) had a big turnout of volunteers so a couple of our members were not required, Wayne Hough and Arthur were given start line duties which kept them on their toes all day, (see Wayne Houghs article) Eric Erickson worked in flag point 2 ? on the inside of the track just after turn 2, Steve Bowra, Tom and Barry Schultz and Tim Edmonds were those who missed out on a job so many thanks to all those who took the time to turn up.

The MSCA now have approval from CAMS, through the good work done by Peter Hall, to run fields of 25 cars, the first grid in restricted to 12 -14 and the following grids are up to 25. We now also get 4 flying laps so with these big fields 4 runs for the day is a doddle

It certainly didn’t look like being much of a day on the way up there however it didn’t rain it just blew, I don’t know about the others but the cross wind on the back straight was something else, I had fitted some new front brakes and found the stopping power improved particularly at the northern hairpin, I had a great dice with Steve O’Malley in a BMW supercharged mini and kept in front of him most of the time until an excursion into the infield while trying to overtake heading up to the esses.

Bill and Bob Schapel both competed in their TCs, Bob had sorted out a problem with the supercharger and almost posted the fasted MG time for the day, it was great to see Neil Williams out driving Joyce’s yellow automatic MGBGT , getting some track time before his event at Winton with the Victorian MG Racing series in his MGF.

Chris Aberley ( SCC ) continued to put in magic times in his MGF Cup car, and a bloke we don’t see much of was driving his V8, I think he is Brian Hills, tells me its been a while since he’s had so much fun, Peter Coulson didn’t finish the last run, his car was loosing coolant so I hope it’s ok.

Pt 2 From Tim Edmonds

It has been a long time since I have written a report, but it is here now.

Thanks to those who have written reports on past events. Last Sunday at the MSCA Sprint Tyson Jeanes had his first run in his MGF, this car and about 20 others were built to race in a series that ran as a support event to the V8Supercars but not in Adelaide they were Trophy 160s with big brakes and 160 engines but it has now been detuned to run in the MGF series here, if you also want to run in this class see Adrian Ackhust, Rod O’Malley, Neil Williams or Rodney Gibb who all have cars in this class.

Don't Forget!!! there is a family fun day at Mallala on 5th September full details in the last mag or mscasa.com September 16th is the SA Motorkhana Championship at Big W Monarto starting at 9.00am entries on the day. These 2 events will also be used for training for the National Meet, please come out and help.

The next event we are organising is an economy run on September 20th starting at the Pasadena BP at 9.30am and finishing at about 150km later at a near south petrol station,
lunch venue nearby. Entries at the start with a small fee, you will need a full tank and map of the local area, most street directions have a map that will do.
