"T" TYPE & PRE-WAR REGISTER -
|
PRE-WAR & T REGISTER NOTES From .Ian Curwen-Walker Register Secretary |
The June Register Meeting was held at the familiar venue of “Daddy” Pearson’s, with David and Joy as our familiar hosts.
David has the advantage of having a very large “under house” garage, which can provide an interesting venue - well protected from the elements.
Again, there was a good “roll-up” of some 40 members, with 8 Register vehicles being driven. And we had the appearance of a recently-joined member of the Club who came in his recently acquired TD. (He has enthusiastically volunteered to host the next Register meeting at his company’s premises in Dawe Park!)
Unfortunately, Brian Golding - our regular visitor from Murray Bridge - had problems with his TC on the way, and was forced to abandon the trip! At least he made an effort.
I am amazed at the continued enthusiasm of this hardened band of MG enthusiasts who continue to turn up for our Register meetings.
However, our meetings, nowadays, are a far cry from our early meetings of the Register – held in the MG Car Clubs premises in Kent town – when the meetings were very formal! (I even have a copy of the Minutes of one of those early meetings!) There is no doubt that the T-typers could be considered as an essential core of an MG Car Club.
I go back many years ago, now, when we had a very close relationship with the TC Owners Club in WA. (And still have). When the MG Car Club of WA was founded, there was an immediate problem with the parent MG Car Club in the UK in deciding which of these two “MG Car Clubs” would be “recognized” by the parent Club. Thankfully, that matter has long been solved.
With the proliferation of new MG models that are now appearing, - whilst the MG name is being well preserved – the T-type will always stand out as one of THE MGs
Keep driving them!.

The Register evening for July will be at the factory of a relatively new member Ken Fisher in Benjamin Street St Mary's
Apparently his premises can accommodate all the Register vehicles under cover! |
T REGISTER NOTES FOR FEBRUARY, 2011
Many thanks to Arthur Ruediger for organizing the Register meeting at his place in January.
From all accounts it was a real success. (Whilst I was up in Queensland (not) enjoying the (not) glorious Queensland weather!)
In fact I passed Toowoomba, on the return to Adelaide on the morning of the tremendous calamity which hit Toowoomba on Monday afternoon of the 10th. January. How lucky can you be!
And now for another year of Register activities.
My sincere thanks to Arthur for organizing and hosting the January Register meeting at his place in West Lakes. From the entries in the “Register Book” it was well attended.
The February Register meeting was held at Leigh and Chris Richter’s property at Aldgate. Their property includes quite a lot of bushland, and a tour of their area is fascinating.
It was a really beautiful evening, and there were a few Register members there who I have not seen for some time. Needless to say, many members took advantage of the glorious weather to bring out their Register vehicles.
Thank you Leigh and Chris for your hospitality.
As is usual at the beginning of the year, we present the IRVING CUP to the Register member that has been most active during the past year in the use of a Register vehicle for Club activities.
This was presented to John and Glenda Buckby – their TC (complete with picnic basket) goes everywhere.
Our next Register meeting is to be held at Ron and Laura Smith’s place in Edwardstown. That also promises to be a very interesting night. See you there !! And bring your MG…….

January 2011 Register Night
By Arthur Ruediger
The first T-Register meeting for 2011, was hosted by myself at my West Lakes home, the temperature during the day had been in the high thirties, and by 7.30 in the evening as the T- types started to invade the quiet cul-de-sac where I live the temperature was not much cooler
The sight of a driveway full of T- types with more parked on the road was a truly great scene, the final count was 14 T- types , 4 other MGs, and 38 persons in attendance, including Ian loader a member of the VSCC who had just purchased an Emerald Green TF, and was invited to attend by John Davies .
At one stage it looked as if the meeting was going to be held on the road because of the reluctance of the members to leave their cars and move through the garage and around to the rear entertaining area.
During the business part of meeting, which was brief, Reg O’Malley presented a large , framed photo of a couple in a lovely Clipper Blue TC, which had been donated by former member Bernard Woysch, with the intention that it could be auctioned and the proceeds go to register funds, it was decided that it may be more appropriate to carry out the auction at a club monthly general meeting when there would be more people in attendance.
The rest of the meeting was taken up by the traditional raffle, the announcement of the venue for the next meeting which will be at Leigh & Chris Richter’s home in Aldgate, and then more chit chat and supper.

NOVEMBER MEETING
It is all too obvious that we are approaching the end of the year – with the traditional smorgasboard meal in the “Heritage Room” of the Hahndorf Old Mill Inn.
Some years ago we abandoned the “organized” run up to Hahndorf, so the various members drifted in about 7 pm for the evening’s entertainment. The weather was fine, so it was a very pleasant run up through the Hills.
(I had the same run up to Hahndorf the following morning, as the Sporting Car Club’s “Climb to the Eagle” assembled at Hahndorf on the way up to Nuriootpa.).
Numbers were about the same as last year – I counted some 35 husbands and wives (although there were only 25 that “signed the “Register Book”).
Once again it was really a good night with plenty of opportunity to meet and mix; - and the smorgasboard meal was much appreciated.
Needless to say it was fairly late when we left for the drive back down to the plains. This event has the advantage that the Register members were enticed to bring their partners to a convivial gathering, in a more “refined” atmosphere - which is very different to the normal Register meetings which are held in a member’s garage - (which can be very chilly).
Once again we are rapidly approaching the end of the year, and the final meeting of the Register, (as is customary) will be held at the Clubrooms, where we will turn on a BBQ meal. This is usually a very well attended gathering, and it will give many of our members who don’t get to the Clubrooms very often, to view the alterations that have recently been completed to the back of the house.
The first meeting of 2011 in January will be in the charge of Arthur Ruediger, and held at his place in Westlakes. (I shall be up in Brisbane – so Arthur is looking after this meeting!) In February we are hoping to go up to Leigh Richter’s place in Aldgate.
And finally, here’s to wish you all a Happy and Prosperous Christmas and New Year, and we look forward to our enjoying our Register vehicles in 2011.
HAVE A GOOD ONE

| PRE-WAR & T REGISTER NOTES For September 2010 |
It is still wintertime, and it is still very cold.
Yet at John Bray’s house for the last Register meeting, we found that the garage was pleasantly warm and so was the hospitality.
Our many thanks go to John and Sue for their efforts and to John for the provision of so many additional Raffle prizes.
There were about 30 members who ventured up “into the hills” and included were 5 Register vehicles, (including that of Brian Golding from Murray Bridge) and 2 “other” MGs.
The Register had been given some “T-appropriate” books and these were put up for auction. The proceeds will be used to help fund the Annual Register Dinner at the Hahndorf Mill in November. Many thanks to the donor, and to those who enthusiastically placed bids for these books.
We are approaching the latter part of the year, and following the meeting at Ron Smith’s next month, we have the Annual Register Dinner at the Hahndorf Mill Hotel in November, and the “breakup” gathering at the Clubrooms in December.
Ron Smith has suggested that we indulge in a “Swap Meet” at the Register meeting at his place next month. We will have to investigate this further to determine what is involved. Ron is an expert in “Swap Meets”, and this could be an interesting night.
The year rolls on, and I have to sincerely thank all those who have so willingly “volunteered” there homes for our monthly Register Meetings. I would be delighted to hear of any other Register members who would be willing to entertain the Register during the coming year.
Now that we are moving into warmer weather, we should be looking to using our Register vehicles more often. I hope to see some of them in the future!
Yours in “T-Typing” –
Ian Curwen-Walker

| PRE-WAR & T REGISTER NOTES For August 2010 |
From Ian Curwen-Walker - Register Secretary
We had the very interesting annual trip to Bob Bazzica’s home in West Beach for the June “T” Register meeting.
|
Bill Schapel with trophies he won at the recent Historic Racemeeting at Winton. Being admired by Wayne Hough and Arthur Reudiger
|
It was a pretty cold night, but there was a good roll up of some 30 diehards. As usual, the hospitality was magnificent. Thank you Bob and Shelley.
It was good to see Stan Shephard there (thanks to Robin Gibbs!)
There was a good roll-up of Register vehicles - 9 of them - and it was good to see Peter Cundy there with his “new” TD; Chris Hunt in his TD; and Craig Ferguson in his TC.
Bob has been very busy in the restoration of his KN- with a “special” body to replace the original pillarless saloon body. After so many years this is fantastic! At the same time he has been very busy in rebuilding the engine, (with many new parts).
|
Barry Bahnisch, Paul Dalwitz and Fred Neild |
(Some have suggested that I should follow suit and start work on the 18/80 !!)
As an aside, an 18/80 has just come into Australia from the United States, and is now sitting in Toowoomba in Queensland. I hope to see this car when I make the trip up to Brisbane at Christmas time.
It is an open 4-seater – the “Speed Six “ body – which is, I hope, to be the body that I shall put on my car.
The T Register meetings for the next few months will be held at Brian Sparks” in July; and John Bray’s place in August.
I know that it has been bxxxxx cold, but I look forward to seeing a few Register cars at the next Register meeting.
Yours in MGs

PRE-WAR & T REGISTER
NOTES From .Ian Curwen-Walker Register Secretary
The May Register Meeting was held at Mike Greenwood’s place in Grange Rd, where he has a magnificent garage – the perfect site for a Register meeting.
There was a good roll up – about 40 - and Wes Southgate impressed everyone by arriving on a Honda 70 “scooter”. Brian Golding, once again, had made the trip from Murray Bridge in the TC.
It was also good to see Ian Buckley – who is currently “visiting” Australia ! Haven’t see Paul Dallwitz, also, for a long time, too.
It was also good to see Stan Shepherd – he doesn’t get out so much these days with his failing eyesight.

There is no doubt about it that Mike is a real expert.-
There is his “home made” grit blasting machine, and the “rotisserie” for manipulating an MG Magnette so that it is possible to work on any part of the car.
|
Rotisserie made by Mike's son Justin Greenwood |
His upholstery work is also magnificent. His work on the upholstery of another Magnette was absolutely first class –and he does it all himself.
We were able to look over his recent acquisition of a dark green MG TD – a beautiful car, done in dark green. (Rolls Royce - British Racing Green!). With a beautiful set of TF wire wheels!
A really magnificent machine.
Thank you Mike and Jan for a very interesting evening. And the supper was excellent!
Our coming Register meetings will be held at Bob Bazzica’s house in West Beach in June, and at Brian Sparks’ place in Seaview Downs in July.
This is the time of the year that we should be working on our cars so that we can really enjoy them in Spring and Summer.
In the meantime, make the most of the comradeship of the Register at our monthly meetings.
Yours Octagonally

THE PRE-WAR & "T" REGISTER REPORT FOR MAY 2010
The April Register Meeting, held at the Clubrooms on the 1st. April, was an enormous success. As this was the day preceding the NatMeet, we had many visitors from the various Australian MG Car Clubs, and the back yard of the Car Club was filled with MGs – what a wonderful sight.
Some of those attending signed the Register Book, but many didn’t – but I estimate that there must have been some 100 people at the Clubrooms that night. And it was a wonderful opportunity to renew old acquaintances, and in particular our friends from the TC Owners Club in Western Australia. They had many TCs over here, but mainly transported by train – not like the “old days” when we used to drive across the Nullarbor !
The BBQ was much appreciated, and I would like to thank the many willing SA Club ladies who assisted, as well as those who plied the barbeque. It really was a memorable night and a wonderful beginning to an enjoyable weekend.
To see the TCs on display at Elder Park on Saturday was fantastic.
And again we saw several of the TCs taking part in the Motorkhana at Monarto on Sunday. (Who will forget the spirited displays of Bill and Bob in their racing TCs ?)
Then there was the Sprint at Mallala on the Monday with several of the TCs taking part.
It was a most enjoyable weekend, and a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends.
There was a “meeting” of the Pre-War Register members at Bob Bazzica’s on the “evening off” on Sunday, and it was great to meet up with some of the UK contingent who had come out to Australia for this NatMeet in Adelaide.
And now…The planned Register meetings for the coming months are visits to Mike Greenwood’s “collection” in May, and then we are off to Bob Bazzica’s (again) in June.
In the meantime –we look forward to seeing the TCs out and about in the autumn months.

T-Register “boss |
The Register activities in January in past years have revolved around the “President’s Day” Picnic, which was usually held at Bev Waters’ place – “Tundarri”, at Gawler. This year, due to the very dry season and the “dried out” state of most properties in the Gawler area, it was decided that the President’s Day should be held somewhat later in the year - when it wasn’t so hot and dry. As a consequence, no Register activities were planned for January.
However, Arthur Ruediger volunteered to have a Register meeting in early January at his place in West Lakes. (In my absence as I was in Queensland).
The February Meeting was held at Leigh and Chris Richter’s place at Aldgate.
These have all been reported in the March issue of the Magazine; and my thanks go to Arthur for covering these meetings.
The March meeting of the Register was held at David Pearson’s Hawthorndene residence, and once again we were handsomely entertained in his large garage. Again there was a large gathering of people (44) and MGs - with some 11 register vehicles being driven to the meeting. As usual, Brian Golding turned up in the TC (as usual), having driven from Murray Bridge.
Thanks – once again – to David and Joy for their hospitality and the use of the garage as our meeting place.
The next meeting will be held on the 1st. April – and being the start of the Easter weekend and our National Meeting, it is planned that we have the Register meeting on the Thursday before Good Friday at the Clubrooms. This will be a welcoming BBQ for our interstate TC and Register vehicle visitors.
The May meeting of the Register is a viewing of Mike Greenwood’s latest acquisition – a road-going MG TD. With all his other MGs, it should be a very interesting evening.
| NOTE CHANGE:Apparently this meeting is now to be held at Bob & Shellie Bazzica's Home at West Beach |
In the meantime, make the most of the good weather, and get out and about in those MGs.
Happy Motoring -
Ian Curwen-Walker

FEBRUARY MEETING UP AT LEIGH & CHRIS RICHTERS'
The T-Register meeting for February was held at the Aldgate home of Leigh and Chris Richter, when I left West Lakes in the TC with the top down it was a balmy night, after a quick stop at Glen Osmond to pick up Fred Neild, we continued up the freeway to Aldgate, when we arrived our host Leigh was still vacuuming the pine needles from his driveway, and the weather conditions were rather cooler than down on the plains.
Leigh had a broken down caravan in his driveway ( no Axle ) we only managed to squeeze 3 TCs a Y type and Wes Southgates P type into the restricted space, and there were at least two other register vehicles parked on the road in front of the house. During the evening the election of the T Register Secretary for 2010 was conducted and Ian Curwen – Walker was elected un- opposed for another term.
Also during the evening the Irving Cup, an award given for the use and preservation of Register vehicles, was presented to John & Gwenda Buckby.
The rest of the evening was taken up with the usual chit chat and topped off with a superb supper prepared by Chris Richter, those macaroons just melted in your mouth. The next meeting will be held at David & Joy Pearson’s and the April meeting, which is on the 1st of April 2010 which is the day before the MG Car Club's Adelaide National Meeting starts, will be held at the club rooms to enable any interstate visitors to attend.
|
For the last few years the January Pre – War & T Register meeting has been combined with Presidents Day at Bev Waters Gawler property, but due to the possibility of extreme weather conditions at this time of the year this event was cancelled.
At the Christmas T - Register meeting in December, a show of hands indicated that a majority of members were desirous of having a meeting in January so Arthur Ruediger offered to host the meeting at his West Lakes home.
The forecast for the day was 36 degrees, although it only just managed to get to 35 late in the afternoon. There was a slight sea breeze as the cars started to arrive, but the conditions were ideal for top down driving, the roll up included 13 T – Type vehicles and 5 other MGs with 46 persons signing the Register book.
Conditions were ideal on Arthur’s back lawn and patio and a most enjoyable evening was had by all who attended. |
The August Meeting.
This was held at Arthur Ruediger’s house, and the first thing that you will notice when entering Arthurs place is all the extremely good looking MGs about the place – the TC, the MGA, the MGBGT, the MGC etc.
Then it true what people say about Antique collectors ……
It might have been quite a cool night, but we were very comfortable and well protected from the weather. Our thanks go to Arthur and the ladies that assisted in preparing the supper.
As we expected, Brian Golding drove his TC to the meeting from Murray Bridge – Brian certainly uses the TC.
There were 35 members signed the Register Book – with four Register vehicles recorded.
The September Meeting.
We, once again, retired to David and Joy’s residence in Hawthorndene, (not far for ME to go !!!) and theirs is an ideal setup where we can all gather together in the large garage “under” the house and be well protected from the elements.
Again, we had a good turnout, and a few Register vehicles, (including the usual Golding TC from Murray Bridge).
My many thanks go to Joy and David for their hospitality – as we had already visited their place earlier in the year, - but we were desperate to find the venue for the September meeting.
There was quite a bit of discussion concerning coming events, with considerable time spent in discussing organisation of the Lobethal Re-enactment in October. (It will be 70 years since the 1939 Lobethal Race was conducted – with all those early MGs being outstanding in their performance).
I have a photograph of an “MG Tiger” which competed in the 1939 Lobethal races; (that is how the Programme reads), which is MY 18/80 wearing the body that was on the car when I acquired it in 1959, but with the original bonnet and radiator positioning before it was modified - and in which modified form I acquired it. Unfortunately, the 18/80 in the 1939 races, DNF’d !!!
It is anticipated that that there will be many Car Club members that will be involved in the organisation.
The following meetings of the “Pre-war and T Register” are:
October, Meeting at Ron Smith’s in Edwardstown.
November The Annual Dinner at the Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel.
December The “Christmas” BBQ at the Clubrooms.
As yet arrangements for next year have not been finalised.
In the meantime – brush off the cobwebs, and get out with you Register vehicle and enjoy the warmer weather.
Yours Ian Curwen-Walker

JULY 2009 -PRE-WAR & T REGISTER NIGHT
“The night was dark and stormy…”
Unfortunately it was a shocking night, and certainly not one for any respectable MG to be out.
Consequently, there were only two MGs at the Register Meeting being held at Brian Sparks’ house in Seaview Downs, - Brian’s TC in the garage, and my MGB GT.!!!!!
So it was a small contingent of 32 that had a very pleasant evening inside – out of the weather.
Roll on Spring and Summer…….
Brian has been a TC owner for longer than most can remember. In the very early days of the Club, he was a regular and active member with his TC.
As so often happens, acquiring a family meant that his TC had to go
although it is still in good hands in Gawler.
When times changed, and he was in a position to once again have a TC, he tried to buy his old car back but without success.
So he had to settle for another very good TC which he still uses.
And now for the coming months….
Next month – August – we are once again descending upon Arthur Ruediger’s residence at West Lakes. This could be a very interesting night, as Arthur has numerous MGs – from his old faithful TC to the later MGBGTV8.
I haven’t been able to settle on a home for the September meeting – so keep a lookout in the “Advertiser” notes in Thursday’s paper for the latest arrangements.
In October we will again be descending upon Ron Smith’s house at Edwardstown. Ron has a very interesting collection of MGs – and old motorcycles.
In November, we have our annual trip to the Hahndorf Mill for dinner.
In December we have the Annual Register Barbeque at the Clubrooms.
In the meantime – keep warm.
Let’s look forward to continued use of our Register vehicles.

JUNE 2009 -PRE-WAR & T REGISTER NIGHT
t’s a long time since we have had a Register meeting at John Bray’s house. And this was the occasion in which could “show off” his new garage. Pride of place in the garage was his TC!
It was a fairly cold night, but it we were quite comfortable in this new 2/3 car garage – which was suitably decorated with various MG photographs and memorabilia going back a LONG time. It was fantastic to see some of the records of the very early days of the MG Car Club and the T Register.
And photographs of his TD which he still drives.
The Register, (which naturally catered for T-types), had its inaugural meeting at the MG Car Club’s premises in King William St, Kent Town. Meetings then were very formal, - with Minutes of the last meeting and all the sort of things that go with a formal meeting.!
How times have changed!
We welcomed the appearance of Craig Ferguson (with son Alex), who we haven’t seen for a very long time. His excuse is that he seems to be overseas at Singapore and other “oriental” places when we have our Register meetings !
Despite the very cold night, Brian Golding again was there, having driven the TC over from Murray Bridge.
And many thanks to our hosts - John and Sue; – and one of the highlights was the production of some wedding presents that I had given John and Sue for their wedding back in the 60’s !
Coming Register meetings are planned for ;
July – Brian Sparks. (8 Gawler St, Seaview Downs).
August - Arthur Ruediger (28 Huntingdale Ave., West Lakes).
And so the year rushes on – it’ll soon be Christmas!
And I hope that you are all preparing your Register vehicles for the Concours at the National Meeting next year. The MG Car Club of SA is the host in 2010, and we need those Concours points to try and regain the Wratten Trophy.
And to show the rest of Australia just what magnificent MGs we have in SA.
See you next month.
And “I do love your car”.

Pre-War & "T" Register Meeting May 2009
It was nice and warm in “Mummy and Daddy” Pearson’s garage, where we held the May meeting of the Register.
There must have been a lot of other attractions that night, because the relatively few turned up – and the poor attendance wasn’t because of the weather.
Whilst there were only 26 present – and Brian Golding drove his TC over from Murray Bridge – it was a wonderful opportunity for a more “intimate” get-together.
There were 4 “Register” vehicles that made it to the meeting, with another 2 “other” MGs.
We had a fairly lengthy “meeting” mainly taken up with a report from the National Meeting held in Geelong over Easter. Thanks you Mike (Greenwood) for such a detailed analysis. The analysis of all the various parts of the Geelong meeting this year will provide an excellent indication of what should (and should not) do next year when the National Meeting is being held in Adelaide.
It was an inspiration at the Geelong NatMeet to see the fantastic turnout of Pre-war and T-type MGs that were on display at the Concours. Get cracking chaps – we have an example to follow next year at West Beach (or perhaps the City).
Winter is upon us, so perhaps this is the time when you should get into the shed and keeping the MG ready for summer – and the Nat Meet next year.
In the meantime, the next meeting of the Register in June will be held at John Bray’s place in Blackwood. John tells me that he has just finished building a garage (to house his many cars), and this meeting will be in the nature of a “garage warming”. So turn up and see some of John’s exotic collection.
The following month, we are planning to go to Brian Sparks place in Seaview Downs.
In the meantime, make the most of your winter “garage time” and get ready for summer and next year’s National Meeting.
See you around…...Ian Curwen-Walker |
Again we reveled in the glorious summer weather
Our Hosts for the March gathering of the Register were Leigh and Chris Richter, at their glorious property “up in the Hills”.
And once again, there were many T types that came out of hiding and made the trip. And altogether there were 15 MGs on the site, with 12 of them T-Register cars. In fact - as he has done several times in recent months, - Brian Golding made the trip from Murray Bridge for the Register meeting, in his TC.
Altogether there were at least 51 members and friends at the gathering, and we enjoyed the venue, and the excellent “spread” turned on by our hosts.
As the last meeting of the Register before the MG Car Club’s AGM, we presented the Irving Cup to the “Member who has travelled to a T Register meeting in his Register MG most times during the past year”.
This year the award was made to two members, each of whom had used their T-type for the Register meetings the same number of times during the year.
Congratulations go to Arthur Ruediger and Laurie Foody.
The Irving cup has a long history. It was presented to the Club by Roger Irving, who was an early and very active member of the Club, and one of a gang of “us” who really used our TCs for all the MG Car Club’s activities. Unfortunately Roger was killed some time ago whilst out riding his bicycle in the Hills. (I mean to do some research and complete the history of the Cup, as some of this history needs to be engraved on the Cup for future members.
At this meeting - which is the last before the MGCC’s AGM - we elect the T-Register Secretary for the coming year. Somehow it happened that you have me for the coming year! Thanks !!!
This “T” Register has a long history – it was started in 1966 – and has met regularly over the intervening years, naturally we have seen many members come and go, but there has always been a solid core who attend regularly. And for many members, this is the prime interest in the Car Club, and their sole activity in the Club. It it gratifying that we still seem to attract a growing number of MG Car Club members – especially those who have a significant interest in the earlier MGs. Keep coming ….
The April Meeting will be held at Mike Greenwood’s at West Hindmarsh, and June Meeting will be held at Brian Sparks’ house in Seaford View.
We were to have gone to Barry Bahnisch’s place in May, but unfortunately he will now be away at that time, so we have to do some re-arranging of venues. Keep you eyes open for Thursday’s Advertiser Car Club Notes for the latest information.
In the meantime; keep using them whilst the good weather lasts.
Ian Curwen-Walker
Your Register Secretary.
T REGISTER NOTES FOR JANUARY & FEBRUARY, 2009
In the last issue of the Magazine, reference was made to the “President’s Day held at Bev Waters’ house in Gawler which was a combined T-Register Run together with an opportunity for new members of the Club to be introduced to the Club in a very informal setting.
As it turned out, it was a fairly warm day, but with a shady tree area and numerous tents it turned out to be a wonderful setting, and it gave the 90 – odd members of the Club a chance to meet new members and renew acquaintances after the Christmas break.
On display were many T-types and what a wonderful sight they made. Of the 93 members who were there, there were 16 T-types, and 28 “other” MGs. Quite an impressive sight.
The February meeting of the Register was held at Bob and Shelly Bazzica’s house, and again, a warm evening, - a wonderful “garden” setting, and many interesting Bazzica cars to pour over. There was a large crowd there – some 50 names in the Register Book.
Again, the Register vehicles were well presented – some 21 cars.
Bob’s K-type. – alas – is still “resting”, but the J2 is now fully functional.
The next meeting will be held at Leigh and Chris Richter’s place at Aldgate – again a very pleasant venue for a Register meeting.
The April venue has yet to be finalized, but the May meeting will be at Barry Bahnish’s and June at Anthony Pearson’s.
We have had a fantastic turnout of T types over the past few months.
Make sure that it continues !!!!

MGC x 2; Magnette x 2; MGTD; MGF = 6“
And still there was plenty of room for the assembled crowd of 45 people, and the weather was also just right for MG-ing, as there were 12 beautiful register vehicles on show.
Among those who were there was Brian Golding from Murray Bridge – with his TC; and Kevin Roper who many years ago had an affair with an MG, and is now looking for a good TD. You cannot get a good “T-type” out of your blood!
There was much discussion on the coming Lobethal re-enactment. It is some 70 years since the great road race at Lobethal, and whilst the roads are exactly as they were in 1939 – they have been resurfaced ! It was suggested that this circuit is probably one of the few in the world which remain unchanged over these many years.
As an aside: my MG 18/80 took part in the 1939 Lobethal Races, (I have a photograph of it on the circuit), being driven by Mr S Haigh.). In the programme results he recorded a “DNF”! it is also worthy of comment that there were so many MGs taking part in the Race.
It was a pity that this was the same day that the Southern Districts Car Club ran an event at Lanac Park to celebrate the 50 years of the dirt circuit at Mt Compass. This was built by the MG Car Club on property belonging to our Patron at the time, Geoff Giles. There were many T-types which used to compete at Lanac , (including mine), but eventually –about 1980 – the MGCC handed over the track to the SDCC who have developed it considerably and also run a very successful Youth Training development program on the track. (With considerable Government support!)
And so we are nearing the end of 2008. The program for 2009 is being drawn up – and venues are being looked for. Any volunteers ??
Our next meeting will be the Annual Dinner to be held at the Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel – which usually provides an excellent run up to Hahndorf; a very pleasant dinner, and a good night of comeraderie.
The December gathering will be the BBQ to be held at the Clubrooms. on Thursday 4th from 6pm
In the meantime – as the weather improves – get out that Register vehicle – and use it……
